THE ARTIST

Ken Wilson

Cohoes, NY

Ken Wilson was born and raised in Albany, New York. From an early age, he had always been considered a "prodigy" relative to his art. What began as detailed sketches of wildlife in magazines evolved into oil paintings, his first set gifted to me from a co-worker of his mother.

Wilson has been painting throughout his life, especially since retiring from law enforcement. He is an award-winning artist, with paintings in galleries locally and in several states. He is currently the first and only Black "racing" artist to create and sell art at any major racetrack in the U.S. He is also currently one of a precious few Black artists who paints en plein air professionally in the U.S

.

THE ART

County Panorama, 2023

Oil on Canvas

This painting was done en plein air (painted outdoors in natural light), with a palette knife, which adds drama, texture movement to the piece. A weather front was approaching, and the idea was to capture the scene as quickly as possible! Holding the canvas in the wind with one hand, painting feverishly with the other lends a spontaneous feel to this piece!.
