TARA BLACKWELL

STAMFORD, CT

blm-mural-promo-artists11.jpg

Tara Blackwell is a mixed media pop artist living in Stamford, Connecticut. Raised in a household filled with artists, Tara was immersed in differing artistic styles and modalities from a young age. She went on to study advertising at Emerson College, with a focus on design and copy writing. In her current work, Tara employs bold colors, layers, and texture, incorporating nostalgic pop culture to explore contemporary social issues. In her “Corner Store” and “Saturday Morning” series, Tara utilizes her commercial design background to take us back to her childhood. Exploring vintage imagery with subversive wit and whimsy, Tara recreates familiar logos, packaging, and characters into a visual narrative of her youth as she transports us back to our own. Tara’s latest “Good Fortune” paintings tap into a familiar, shared experience of finding comfort and revelations in fortune cookies. Using humor and creative word play, Tara creates art from quirky messages which can hit a nerve, spark an idea, and give confirmation—providing the viewer with whatever they might be seeking in that moment.
