Opened in 1878, the State Capitol was designed by Richard M. Upjohn, a cathedral architect. The High Victorian Gothic style statehouse was designated a Registered National Historic Landmark in 1971. The State Capitol building is open to the public. Self-guided and guided tours are available on weekdays.
