"Metamorphosis” by Larry Poncho Brown

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. In Galveston, Texas on June 19th, 1865, two and half years after the delivery of the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved Black people in Texas were freed by executive decree. The observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
